Saxen Van Coller- Photographing The Mighty Bears

Photographing dangerous animals are a lot more adventurous, especially for photographers. Huge teeth, speed, claws, and power bring in an adrenaline rush when taking pictures. Like other adventures in life, for Saxen Van Coller photographing the untamed is always thrilling. She feels it becomes more fun when there is risk involved. It’s been years since she has been taking pictures of the wild. Just like photographing the dangerous animals are a thrill it is also a risky affair, hence some caution should be involved when you want to get those great shots.

She enjoys taking pictures of all wild animals, yet tigers, lions, and bears are those dangerous animals that test her skills. Bears are her personal favorite since it is one animal that you can encounter on your own. A trip to a glacier before their hibernation period is the perfect time to capture the mighty one. This is the time when all they have in their mind such as eating and building fat for the long winter.  Bears love berries and if you want to click then the best place would be a bush full of berries. If you are lucky sooner or later there are chances that the bear will visit there. They lover berries and will sit there and finish the entire patch, making it perfect for you to take photographs.

Photographing the animals is fun, especially bears. Here Saxen Van Coller recommends a long lens, the bigger the better try using a 70-200, 2.8 ready handy. Try to keep the shutter speed at 500th and the aperture at 4 or 5.6 at the most. Bears do not have a good sight hence you can sit and observe them ideally with a long 400-600mm lens. If you want a straight look simply use a whistle as one quick sound will make them look up right into your lens giving you the perfect shot.

While you are at this ensure that you maintain a safe distance from the bear and are not visible to them as they may consider you a threat and may get aggressive. When we are talking to bears Grizzly bears, unlike the brown bears are a bit less aggressive yet you need to take care. The Grizzlies are very territorial and easier to find. They are less shy and tend to be hostile; hence you get an opportunity to take their photographs with ease. Take care when in the wild if the bear catches your glimpse never run as you may look like a threat. Stay calm and he will move away.
