Wildlife photography is fun when you add a little adventure and risk. Saxen Van Coller a professional wildlife photographer has spent years of her life taking risky shots. Going to remote and wild locations has made her more passionate about her work. She has clicked thousands of wildlife pictures leaving her with a sense of satisfaction.
She says that there are few things that one must always consider while doing wildlife photograph; abstain from interfering with their natural habitat, breeding and feeding activities when taking photographs and be extra careful when there are young one’s involved. One should always gain ample knowledge about the habitat and behavior pattern of the animals to avoid any kind of danger.
Being a wildlife photographer over the years Saxen Van Coller has studied a lot about the natural habitat of the untamed. This has helped her do better and take better pictures. Knowing how they move, survive and change their habitat helps in taking better shots.
Among the wild she enjoys taking pictures of Curlew they are wary birds who make lovely sounds. The only thing that these birds do the best is that they maintain a 100m distance between themselves and human. With the slightest movement, they will start moving away from a person if they try to come near. So when photographing them all the work should be done carefully and very slowly keeping a low profile. Your camera with a 600mm lens with the tele-converter added on the back works wonders. Most of the time the birds spend long periods standing, sleeping, and occasionally preening unless a predator is near. You do not have much time with the Curlew hence its better to make the most of the summer evening when you get to hear a curlew to take pictures.
No two days are alike in the natural world and opportunities must be taken as and when they are available. She says it takes years of trials, lost shots, out of focus pictures, yet one should just keep clicking you never know which turns out to be your best shot. She suggests taking your camera anywhere you travel as an opportunity can arise anytime when you are in the wild.
